IRISH SHELL
4 WHEEL DIESEL SHUNTER No.23
BUILT BY : F.C. HIBBERD (WORKS NO. FH3509)
BUILT : 1951
WITHDRAWN : 1971

No. 23 was Ireland's last privately owned broad gauge locomotive.  She was used by Irish Shell at their Alexandra Road premises in Dublin for shunting oil tank wagons.  Now at Whitehead, she was a valuable (if not very powerful) shunting engine.  This locomotive is long overdue some major overhaul work and it is hoped that the arrival into traffic of the Carlow diesel will allow this to take place. Nicknamed at Whitehead as "The Planet".
