 Progress
is steady on the restoration of our GNR(I) Brake Van (known locally as
I-van). Work is concentrating on removal of loose rust and protective
painting of the underside. |
 This
work has to take place before we can refit the similarly treated and reconditioned
brake components. |
 This
view shows the verandah at the Belfast end of the van. It is planned
to have all of the underside of this verandah completely wire brushed and
painted by next Wednesday evening. |

- Preparation for riveting new outer firebox sides. Making flanging block
for inner firebox door plate. This view of the door is taken from
inside the firebox which is resting on its side. |

No.5 "Drumboe" - Dismantling of wheels and running gear continuing. Trailing
wheelset taken into workshop for skimming tyres and journals. This
view of casting from Friday 9th Feb awaiting fettling. |

 In
the main workshop, further work was being carried out on the GNR(I) springs
recovered from the Downpatrick and County Down Railway GNR brakevan.
These springs will be used on our own "Ivan". Heat is applied to
the hanger on this spring to help loosen the bolts... |
 Some
heavy handed hammer deployment required to push the bolt through the spring
hanger... |
 ...result
is one spring ready for further dismantling and leaf replacement. |
